Polymega, una volta conosciuto più banalmente come Retroblox, è una console dedicata al retrogaming.
Per dedicata questa volta si intende che grazie alla sua capacità modulare sarà possibile utilizzare le cartucce ed i CD-ROM originale e farli girare direttamente sulla console.
Allo stato attuale sarà possibile giocare tramite il modulo Cartuccia a NES, SNES, Mega Drive e PC Engine, mentre il modulo CD ROM permetterà di giocare tranquillamente a Sega CD, PC Engine CD/TG-16 CD e la cara vecchia PlayStation.
L’azienda aveva annunciato che la quarta console compatibile sarebbe stata rivelata con l’avvento dell’E3; la promessa è stata mantenuta ed ora è ufficiale che Polymega sarà in grado di far girare perfettamente i giochi del Neo Geo CD.
Il Neo Geo CD fù svelato nel 1994 da SNK per tentare di donare una seconda giovinezza alle costosissime console Neo Geo dell’epoca, tarpate da costi enormi in gestioni della memoria attraverso le cartuccie; il supporto CD-ROM aveva l’obbiettivo di tagliare i prezzi relativi alle cartuccie ma portò con se problemi riguardanti la giovinezza del formato, infatti il primo loader per Neo Geo era maledetto da una lentissima velocità di lettura che a volte pregiudicava completamente la possibilità di usufruire della console; il problema fù risolto con il successivo Neo Geo CDZ
Il Polymega sarà in grado di leggere i giochi Neo Geo l’80% più velocemente del primo Neo Geo CD ed il 60% più veloce del suo successore Neo Geo CDZ.

Polymega sembra avere tutte le carte in regola per sbancare Kickstarter, non resta che attendere l’uscita ufficiale del founding sulla piattaforma.
